Kanakia Forest

This forest is located on the south side of the island and it covers an area of 30,000 acres. Here you will find hedgehogs, turtles, foxes and various species of birds. The forest is ideal for day trips, camping and mountain biking.

On your way to the forest you will find the monastery of St. Nicholas with its fountain, which was built in the 17th century. The Byzantine church of Saint John Kalyvitis, which was built in the 10th century, is also nearby. Furthermore, an ancient settlement which includes the palace of King Ajax has been discovered in the forest.
